EIC Accelerator technology expert meeting phase has started
The new technology expert meeting phase of the EIC Accelerator Full Application has begun. Applicants are being contacted for one hour technical discussions scheduled for early February.

Some EIC Accelerator applicants received an email this week informing them that a technology expert has been assigned to their proposal and that a one hour online meeting will take place in early February.
This step is new for all applicants and, understandably, it is already creating some confusion. A few clarifications help put it into context.
This is not a pitch interview
The technology expert is not there to be convinced or sold to.
Their role is to assess:
- Technical credibility
- Internal coherence
- Whether the proposal holds up when discussed with someone who has read it critically and independently
A refined pitch or a new narrative is not the objective of this meeting.
The proposal remains the reference
This discussion does not replace what is written in the application.
Instead, it tests whether what is written is:
- Internally consistent
- Technically sound
- Realistic when questioned by an external expert
Explanations that were never made explicit on the page cannot be assumed during the discussion.
This is where assumptions surface
Vague claims, shortcuts, or elements that felt obvious to the authors tend to surface very quickly in this type of conversation.
What made sense internally during drafting may not be as clear to an external technical reader encountering the proposal for the first time.
This is often where otherwise strong applications begin to show avoidable weaknesses.
How to prepare effectively
If you received this email, the best preparation is not a new story or a refined pitch.
It is a very clear understanding of:
- What your proposal actually says
- How it may reasonably be interpreted by a critical expert
- Where your claims could be challenged based on what is written
Wishing all applicants a clear, focused, and constructive technical discussion.
