EIC ACCELERATOR PROPOSAL STRESS TEST

Find the NO-GO risk before the EIC does

EIC Accelerator is not only a writing competition. The proposal has to make a deep-tech breakthrough, TRL, market creation case, scale-up logic, financing need, FTO position, team, milestones and implementation plan agree through the short proposal, scored full proposal and jury stages.

THE EVALUATION LOGIC

What an EIC Accelerator case has to survive

The application is judged through scientific and technological credibility, market and impact potential, implementation strength and the need for EIC support. The strongest applications connect those dimensions instead of presenting them as separate annexes.

EXCELLENCE

Breakthrough claims need comparative proof

Novelty, breakthrough nature, technology maturity and timing have to make sense together. Calling something deep tech is not the same as demonstrating why the technology is hard to replicate and why now is the right moment.

  • Novelty is explicit against real alternatives
  • TRL claims are supported by the evidence provided
  • Technical risk matches the maturity claimed
IMPACT

The market story has to be investable, not merely large

Market size, access, competitive advantage, intellectual property, customers, commercialisation and scale-up need a credible chain from technology to adoption.

  • Market segmentation and buyers are concrete
  • FTO and IP strategy fit the route to market
  • Commercial milestones connect to evidence and financing
IMPLEMENTATION

Milestones, money and team need one coherent scale-up story

The implementation plan, financial plan, funding request and team capabilities should reinforce the same path from current maturity to commercial scale.

  • Milestones and KPIs are measurable and decision-relevant
  • Financial projections connect to development and market entry
  • The need for Union support is explicit and credible
WHERE PROPOSALS BREAK

Common EIC Accelerator deal-breakers

A proposal can look impressive and still leave one critical question undefended. EIC evaluation is particularly unforgiving when technical, commercial and financing narratives contradict each other.

8 recurring weaknesses to pressure-test

Disruption without comparison

01

The innovation is described as disruptive without a disciplined comparison to alternatives.

TRL claim outruns evidence

02

TRL evidence does not support the maturity claimed in the narrative.

Finance detached from scale-up

03

The financial plan contains numbers that are not explained by the scale-up sequence.

Market size without market access

04

Market size is strong but market access, buyer behaviour or procurement logic is vague.

FTO treated as paperwork

05

FTO is treated as a document to upload rather than a strategic constraint on commercialisation.

Milestones do not de-risk value creation

06

Milestones are activity checkpoints rather than verifiable value-creation or de-risking events.

Insufficient specificity

07

Claims stay generic instead of naming actors, baselines, target values, timing, quantities or accountable owners.

Unsupported credibility

08

Important claims rely on assertion instead of recognised references, comparable evidence or verifiable proof points.

HOW RUTHLESS CHECKS IT

How Ruthless stress-tests an EIC Accelerator application

The review looks for the points where a jury member or remote expert can stop believing the scale-up case.

#01RUTHLESS CHECK

Test the breakthrough claim

Ruthless checks whether novelty, performance, maturity and risk are described consistently across the application.

#02RUTHLESS CHECK

Cross-check the market and FTO case

Findings surface gaps between customer logic, competitive positioning, IP, regulatory assumptions and the proposed route to market.

#03RUTHLESS CHECK

Cross-check annex logic

The review looks for contradictions between narrative, milestones, implementation, financial projections and the funding request.

#04RUTHLESS CHECK

Prioritise the NO-GO risks

The Priority Action Plan ranks the issues that most urgently need a defensible answer before the next submission or internal review.
